The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) has announced the availability of fiscal year 2021 Applied Sciences Program funding. The application period opened August 20, 2021 and will close 45 days later on October 7, 2021.
Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, Native American tribal organizations, and federal, state, and local governments. Applicants may request funding up to $200,000, which would be awarded through a cooperative agreement. Each agreement will be established for a period of time consistent with the proposal; generally, agreements do not exceed two years from the date of award.
Applied Sciences funding results in the improved protection of the public and the environment by advancing technology development and transfer related to surface coal mining and reclamation. Such efforts are needed to better protect endangered species, improve reforestation, protect prime farmland, and mitigate harmful environmental hazards, while improving the lives of environmental justice communities throughout coal country.
